OxGord’s Natural Oatmeal Dog Shampoo and Conditioner is a best seller on the market, and is a quality oatmeal dog shampoo.

The shampoo uses a medicated clinical vet formula to help dogs with dry, itching skin.

I really like that OxGord’s oatmeal shampoo has a tea-free formula and contains natural essential oils and extracts that soothe and cleanse your dog’s skin and coat. There’s no need to worry about irritation or inflammation when using the shampoo for either your dog or yourself- some people get allergic reactions when they’re shampooing their dog using certain shampoos.

The shampoo is vegan and organic. This is great if your dog has sensitive skin or if you’re concerned about exposing your pets to toxic ingredients. It’s also gentle for the environment.

The shampoo contains colloidal oatmeal, vitamin E (which is important for skin care), soothing Chamomile extract and organic Shea butter.

However, please note that the shampoo does contain chemicals such as sodium laureth sulfate, which is a common surfactant used in many skin care products. Most dogs do not have a reaction from this, but if your dog has very sensitive skin, then OxGord may not be the best option for you.

Why is oatmeal found in dog shampoos?

Oatmeal has been cultivated for many centuries, and although it is typically eaten, colloidal oatmeal is the type of oatmeal used in skin care. Colloidal oatmeal is ground into a powder that’s created into a paste or added to a bath.

Colloidal oatmeal has been used in skin care products since 2003.

Oatmeal’s properties include avenanthramides and phenols, and studies have found that these properties have anti-inflammatory, anti-itch, anti-oxidant and anti-irritant activities. Avenathramides also act as an antihistamine, which is great if your dog suffers from allergic reactions.

Not all dog shampoos labelled “natural” are chemical-free- some still contain preservatives and other chemicals despite being labelled natural or organic. Many contain surfactants such as sodium lauryl sulfate- if you’re concerned about this, I’d recommending reading Dr Mercola’s article.

When buying any dog shampoo, make sure you read the ingredients listing to see if there are any low-quality ingredients in the shampoo. If you think these ingredients will irritate your dog, buy a different dog shampoo.

Choose the best oatmeal shampoo for dogs that is labelled safe for sensitive skin or hypoallergenic dogs.
